Old catch new catch

My old door catch had crumbled away and was no longer working.

It look very sad.

A quick bid on ebay and I have a replacement. Now it looks out of place on the van.

When I removed the old catch and latch I noticed a residue of mastic had been placed on the base. Is this common practice to seal your screw holes. I am wondering should I put on a mastic seal at the weekend.

Definitely, get yourself a tube of sikaflex 512 or soudal mastic, best to use specific caravan based products.

I had this catch on my last van - they aren't very good. It'll soon be worn again I'm afraid - just watch it in the wind, especially with children around.

Mastic should work but it really should be a waterpfoof sealant available from dealers and probably on Amazon or e bay or dealers websites. If you do not seal it correctly water can get in and that has to be avoided at all costs.
