I don't understand why nowadays people have to video/take pics and slap it on the Web. Do they get a kick out of it. Just my tuppence worth.

Like everything else there is always a broad range. Some videos are just self indulgent nonsense whilst others are really helpful and informative. I have checked out a number of caravan sites before booking, and learned how to solve some van related maintenance issues. You just have to selective.

No, it's a good question.

For us it's about recording memories for our family in a way that you just wouldn't record otherwise. Sure I would normally take a snapshot on my phone or record a short video but there it would stay for years to come with none of my family being able to see it.

A youtube video can take 20 hours of editing alone, it is normally planned, has a story and is informative to the viewer. I do feel proud of my work when someone has enjoyed it and leaves a nice comment so yes, I do get a 'kick out of it' I guess. And to be honest, it is the future, statistics show that most people are now watching youtube on their TV's. I haven't watched traditional terrestrial telly for several years now opting for netflix, amazon prime and youtube for more niche content.

Another reason why people do this is once you get to a certain 'size' of subscribers on your channel, youtube actually pays you a few pennies for each person viewing the video. Some of the well established youtubers can sustain their adventure lifestyle from this alone. Sadly, I'm along way off that but enjoying it all the same for the quality memories I'm giving to my kids to look back at in the future.

A forum member,Jaydug, produced a blog that captured many years of his travels both abroad and in U.K.. Not only was it interesting to read but contained a lot of useful information that helped others plan their trips. So I can understand your interest in using YouTube.

When I first took the caravan through the channel tunnel I was not sure how it all worked. I watched a few YouTube videos and all went swingingly.

Yes, as time goes on I will try to share my experiences of caravaning with 'hints & tips' and other 'how to' tricks I've learnt along my own caravaning journey. Sharing this knowledge with people new to caravaning is great, youtube is the perfect platform for doing this, and you build a community of like minded people along the way!

Chris, your welcome to blog your adventures but just beware of one of the community rules.

Don’t use our forums as a tool to promote your own personal products or services. Trying to drive our readers to third party sites will result in such posts being edited or deleted.

Good luck

It's a little grey area to me.

If you, Chris, direct people to your video and it promotes products or services of yours then I suspect that would not be allowed. If it's for products or services from others then I'd guess that would be ok.

It is a grey area Sam, the video I posted was my review of our caravan, the 2023 Bailey Discovery D4-2, I don't have any products or services so was a little confused it was removed but happy to follow what you think really.

I don't see a review of something you own and paid for as a problem.

I didn't remove anything so not sure what you're referring to.

Potential problems would be if your videos contained ads you were being paid for or were paid for reviewing an item.

I've started making videos of some boating adventures. Definitely lot of work doing editing but rewarding.
Just be careful showing vehicle registrations if you want to protect your privacy.
