Jay Tea.
Welcome to the forum.
We are all getting on a bit but try and meet up once or twice a year. See the Woosie Club section under Chit Chat.
If you can join us you will not be disappointed. We are all very relaxed and not in each other’s hair.
Maybe we shall see you :cheer:

Welcome to the forum. We are in Lanarkshire so probably fairly near to you. Been caravanning for well over 30 years so we are probably old oldies.
There is plenty of knowledge on here so do ask if you need help.

Left the house at 3:00am Tuesday morning, a round trip of 571 miles and sat on a ferry for 6 hours. Returned home at 10:45pm and feeling rather smug tonight. The forecast wasn't good for the west coast of Scotland so when I left I expected snow, and got lots of it, more than lots, mile after mile after mile of the white stuff. On the return journey with a 6.5m caravan hanging onto the back of the XC90 we hit a steep hill where cars, trucks and buses were stuck and it was mayhem, but the XC90 with the winter tyres took it all in its stride and plodded on up the hill leaving everything else behind...

Brilliant trip. Which ferries were you on? Shows what can be done with suitable tyres. When I did greenlaning it become obvious that the two key things were tyres and clearance.
Only time I had winter tyres it wasn’t too successful as I couldn’t get by all of the stuck traffic on their summer tyres. But I guess in Scotland more users fit winter or AS tyres anyway.

otherclive,

I do not know anyone who fits winter tyres here in Scotland, In all my years here I have never even met anyone who has fitted winter tyres.

Some (very few) carry snow chains, me being one of them, never had to use them and hope I never will, a PITA to fit in the conditions that dictate you must fit them.

Anseo, I fitted Winter tyres to my Cavalier Coupe and to Mrs H's Chevette, we were living in Alford North West of Aberdeen, in 1982. Locals still use Winter All Season tyre now. You low landers on the coast don't know winters. :p

Very nice and clean and looks massive on the inside very nice . It'll probably want a few hours cleaning time now on the outside after all that snow and driving through it which isn't a 2 minute job , I can spend about 5 hours doing mine back to better than showroom condition !! :p

Enjoy all your time that you are going to be spending in it away now , we love ours

Craig .
