omni direcctional tv ariel

hi,

i have a teleco omni directional tv ariel installed in my ace jubilee herald caravan 2005.i have noticed that when on site there is a red light on the box inside cupboard. (i do not use tv on holidays.)i take it this indicates that the ariel is on , but i don't see any switch to turn it off. anyone know where that might be; and if it on continually ,will this run down my battery?

Hi Jim,

I can confirm that the Teleco wing aerial does not have an on/off switch. When power is introduced into the van the aerial will switch on and remain on until power is disconnected. Providing your battery is kept in a good state you should have no problems with it draining.

We have a 2008 Ace Jubilee Courier, and we could never get a decent picture, either on vertical, or horizontal, with our directional ariel,( the one that is fitted as standard), that was until we by-passed the booster using a jointer for the lead, and we have a brilliant picture.

Any ideas why??

Might be worth checking that you have the input and output plugs in the correct sockets on the booster. Also, I seem to remember thatthe booster has two outlets and connectors on some caravans, with the outputs going to different sockets in the van. If yours is like this, try using just the socket where you get a good picture with the other outlet unplugged. Perhaps the other outlet has got a short on the wire somehere or in one of the plugs/sockets.

(blush) after months of trying for a decent picture off the built in status aerial, I gave up and routed a new cable from the front locker through the van to where needed inside... whilst testing my handy work (new mast, new aerial, new cable etc.,) through the amp in the wardrobe, I found the input/output on the original system were swapped... Grrr, but maybe my misfortune might save anothers wasted time.

I also have an aux switch on the main power panel which isolates the booster.
