On Baord Water Pump Noise - Question

Hi,

Have seen several posts recently re 'Noisy' pumps - what is definition of Noisy?

Our new Lunar has an onboard pump working from the onboard tank - the tank is topped up by using an external pump.

The external pump just 'whirrs', however when you open a tap in the van and the onboard pump starts it makes a real noise, a sort of 'thumping' mixed with a 'grind' and a 'whirr' - Is this normal ??? I thought the bearings must be on their way out, but maybe I am bieng oversensitive as I have never had any experience with these pumps.

Any advice appreciated

We have a Lunar but not on onboard water tank. However our pump was very noisy and we fixed a surge damper into the line and it cured the problem instantly. Available from dealers for approximately

Hi thanks for the advice - is this noise normal then? Just seems a bit strange that on a brand new van I should have to fork out for a surge damper.

The noise would certainly fit with your description - do all on board pumps suffer with this problem I wonder ?

I have been told that this is a very common problem. When we picked our new Lunar up the dealer said that it could be adjusted when necessary. However, we tried adjustment which proved to be almost impossible as the adjustment was very sensitive. We thought we had it right but if we moved site we had to start all over again, and it seemed to be very affected by water pressure.

I do agree that we should not have to pay extra and for the price of this part I think it should be put in at the point of manufacture. However, I do think it was worth

Thanks for the advice - looks as though I may have to follow your lead !

One thing though - how does the water pressure vary ? Its not connected to the mains and simply draws from a tank - it only activates to fill the water heater or when a tap is turned on.

Don't ask me these technical questions, maybe it isn't water pressure then but SOMETHING made it change all the time!!! The taps often spluttered and the pump even switched itself on during the night, so whatever gremlins were in it, have all gone since the damper was fitted. Good luck!
