onboard water tanks

I bought a new caravan last year - one with an onboard water tank. For the life of me I cannot see the advantage in this arrangement - unless you really want to travel around the country with a few gallons of H2O swilling around in your van for the dubious benefit of having a cuppa immediately on arrival. Have I got it right??. You transport water in the aquaroll to the van, to transfer into your onboard tank to transfer it into the sink. Have I missed something?, or is this another way of using up valuable locker space in order to play the childhood game of pouring water from one container into another. Somebody put me right!! brian.f

Hi Brian

Onboard water tanks tend to be a continental phenomena. I have an Eriba with a 40l onboard tank. As you pull on site you fill with a short length of hose then top up with a watering can, as and when required. Anyone stayed on European sites and wondered why lots of people walk round with watering cans ???

Europeans tend to use lots less water - no onboard showers etc. It works for me but would be no good if you use a lot of water.

Hope that answers you question

We don't have an 'official ' system - we did it ourselves - 2 largish containiers in the cupboard under our Cutlery Drawer in our Abbey Cardinal 312. There is soooooo much storage room in the kitchen area that we could afford to lose some to water. This means no mucky Aquaroll or similar to be tucked away at the end of aa trip :).

Each container can be carried - even when full .

We never travel with both full - and frequestly one is half full , but this mean that if we get to a Site and it's simply p........ down we can make that coffee and wait till it's dry to get water.

The pump fits in the containers easily and it also means that in very cold weather we would have no trouble :)

me I like it that way.

We did the same in our old Elddis - there the container was in the Cupboard under the bathroom sink.

I wouldn't like to be without the onboard tank

Just a gallon in the tank ensures water for the journey and when you arrive in the rain on site you can delay filling

If you shower in the van as we do then you can have the tank and aquaroll full.

When the tank low level light comes on we can pump in the aquaroll full and refill the aquaroll when dressed etc

When leaving a site the aquaroll can be stored away the night before and water in the tank can still be used.

In frosty weather the inboard tank does not freeze up like the aquaroll.

Just a few reasons "for" the tank but if you have more "againsts" then don't use it but you do have the choice.

In-board tanks also protect against vandalism.

Prevents dogs (and others) peeing up your aquaroll.

Decreases the weight carried if you ditch the un-hygenic aquaroll.

I use a 14 litre plastic watering can to fill mine.
