Our first adventure

Our first trip out is this weekend 9th June 2012. I will be going to set up the van whilst the OH is at work. I have asked my questions received the answers So all should be ok. We are just going to the White Water Park, Tees Barrage, Stockton On Tees, it's only a about 5 miles away so if I need anything I can always *** home.

Thanks to all who have given me sound advice and to those funny replies as well.

Hi All

Back from our little practise run it was a very wet weekend it stopped raining once. Had a couple of disasters firstly the roof vent was left open whilst we went out with dogs then it stated to rain. Not too much of a problem as we had some carpets runners down on top of the original carpet and that got rather wet but fortunately the main carpet was only damp. Scratched my bumper due to the OH directing me back to hitch the van up, I also snapped the breakaway cable.

Found out the hard way on this trip and what is required for the next trip in case it rains all weekend. I have also learnt that the OH can sit in the car with the dogs whilst I un-hitch level the van etc as it works more smoothly when she is not helping (hindering?) me. At the end of the day we had a good old laugh about it when we got back home but saying all that we did enjoy the relaxation we had. It took us one and a half hours to get the awning up so hopefully that time will reduce as we get to know what to do and in which order to do it in.

An hour and a half for a first go at an awning is pretty good. But, pray tell, how did you manage to snap your breakaway cable?

Basically due to the OH panicking, after reversing the van into its spot at the storage site when I un-hitched the hitch lock moved forward, spring loaded I think, the OH thought the van was moving forward started to panic and said move the car before the hitch lock damages the bumper, by then I was stressed jumped in the car set off then twang went the cable as it was still connected. As previously mentioned the OH will be sitting in the car until the business of hitching and un-hitching the van is complete.
