Out of season sites in France/Belgium

We have booked a Dover Calais crossing but are struggling finding sites which are open early March. We would like something fairly close to WW1 Battlefields or Normandy beaches. Any suggestions?

Thank you

We stayed at Camping des Capucines at Ranville over Christmas & New year a couple of years ago, as it is open all year. If you want a base for exploring it is ideal as it is only 1/2 a mile from Pegasus Bridge and a couple of miles from the start of the eastern end of the beaches. It is clean and tidy and the showers and loos are heated. There is no web site but the telephone number is 00 33 2 31 78 69 82. The owners are very helpful and speak some English. There is a small local supermarket and a restaurant (we never went but menu looked good) in the village within walking distance.

'Le Vivier aux Carpes' at Seraucourt-le-Grand, near St Quentin, should be open from 1st March. We have stayed here a few times and can thoroughly recommend it - just basic, but good, facilities - unless you are a fisherman of course, in which case you will think it very well equipped. It is only about one and a half hour's drive from Calais and very central for visits to many of the WW1 battle sites. English is spoken in reception and the campsite is close to the centre of a small village with supermarket etc. When we have been there, a baker's van has called each morning, but I don't know if this would happen out of season. The e-mail address is camping.du.vivier@wanadoo.fr.

when next in France buy the official camping and caravannong guide for france available in most supermarkets. Usually gives opening dates Or write to local Maison du Tourisme at nearest town(s)

Not necessarily of use to you this year, but translating the bits I want is a useful task in the winter..
