Over run assembly grease

Hi there

Purchased a grease gun to grease the three grease nipples on the over run assembly. Went to purchase grease I did not now there was so many different types of grease?????

I have a 2007 Bailey ranger AL-Ko Kober running gear fitted.

Does any body now please the correct grease to use.

LM Grease is a soft brown Lithium soap based grease, and is used for chassis and wheel bearings - it works well at those temperatures found in those applications. And it offers good resistance to water.

No, "any" motor grease will not do, Al-Ko specify LM, and that is what should be used.
 
Hi all,

Apologies for bringing this one back to the top, but it's the nearest I can find on a forum search and hopefully one of you may have the answer to my query.

After towing for about an hour, I have noticed a clunk coming from the back of my car under braking.

The van is only 2 years old and was recently serviced.

The tow bar assembly on the car appears fine.

I'm sure I read on the forum recently that this may be a problem with the over run assembly and if so, is it easily sorted by using the LM grease as discussed earlier.

Should this be happening so soon after a service and any idea why it only comes on after an hour towing, or is that simply a reduction in efficiency of the grease when it warms up ?

On longer trips, will it be prudent to carry a grease gun or should it be lasting longer than that.

That sounds like failure of the over-run damper this normally happens with older caravans after significant use.

If it's only 2 years old, do you have any warranty left? Discuss this with your dealer's workshop.
 
Ken, to test the damper operation, press the hitch assembly as far in towards the caravan as it will go.

Let go and watch to see if it returns to the rest position smoothly and slowly.

If it does not move back, the hitch damper is faulty and needs replacing.

The application of grease will do absolutely nothing to help, or hinder it. The grease is only to allow the damper tube to slide freely, the damper itself is a sealed unit which has no serviceable parts in it at all.
