Try the Camping and Caravanning Club site at Southbourne, (between Chichester and Havant), easy striking distance of Portsmouth and really nice area, worth more than one night. It takes non-members. 01243 373202.

Do not stop at Southsea, unless you like cars being hot rodded around the site until the early hours, this being the late night revellers coming out of the evening entertainment. I had booked a night there last year and promptly drove straight off the site as an escort turbo overtook me on a speed bump and went skidding around a corner narrowly missing the vans followed by a pug GTI !

We eventually stopped at the port side as it were, along with many other vans, approx 50. The port people kindly wake you up at 7.00am to get on the first sailing.

Rookesbury Park or Chichester caravan and camping club are about the best in the area if your looking for clean tidy and nice. But I am dissapointed at how close you are at Rookesbury, a little too friendly with your neighbours me thinks!

Rookesbury park is a fabulous site, I've just come back from there, spent a week there. I disagree that you are too close to your neighbours. If you only want to stay for one night, there is a dedicated area for overnighters who want to leave early for the ferries, and there are print outs of directions to the ferry terminal in the information room, as well as how to get to the nearest pubs and supermarkets. Excellent.
