Overnight stop en-route to Plymouth

Can anyone recommend an overnight stop adjacent to M5 between Bristol and Exeter. Travelling from Swansea mid-June to catch 12md sailing fm Plymouth to Santander then 20 nights in France -Pyrenees, Dordogne, Loire and Normandy - can't wait. How practical are the Motorway services for a few hours kip. Have used them many years ago but nothing recently. Thanks.

Huw - we have done this trip many times from Bridgend without stopping. What we tend to do is drive down the day before the sailing and stop for free on the quayside in Plymouth. There are basic toilet and washing facilities there - no showers or electric hook up but for one night we find it no problem having to "rough" it for 24 hours. There is plenty of room for children to play outside for a while and it is surprising how many other travellers stay there overnight, some sleeping in their cars overnight. If you are going on the mid day crossing put a note in the caravan window stating this or you will be called by the harbour personnel at 6:00am for the early morning crossing.

We have always travelled the day before in case of hold ups on the motorways/A38. Have a safe trip and a pleasant holiday you lucky so and so.
