I am taking the Portsmouth/Bilbao return trip shortly and am looking for a decent overnight stop within 20 miles of Bilbao convenient to the A8 for my return journey. I don't really want to put up in service stations or at the dockside.

I am also looking for an overnight stop somewhere roughly mid way between the Med. and Bilbao convenient to the A64 eg.in the Pau area, again just for the return journey. Does anyone have any suggestions? I depart from home this Friday 1st June so I need the info rather quickly.

Thanks a lot.

Brian...just returned via Bilbao last week. Before sailing home we stayed at:

Camping Playa del Regaton

Laredo

Cantabria

Tel: 0034 606995

Great campsite just off the beach. Larado is a good town to visit as well.

Site located about 28 miles from Bilbao just off the main motorway (A8) west of Bilbao towards Santander. (from memory I think it is J27)

Took us 25 mins to get to the ferry from the campsite.

Also, quite a lot of caravanners use the ferry dockside to park over night prior to sailing back to the UK and there are always a few there so I belive it is safe enough...we use the campsite cos her indoors insists on having mains power for the hairdryer!!!

Hi Beemermal.

Thanks for info. I am however ideally looking for something east of Bilbao, otherwise it adds 50/60 miles to the journey just for an overnight stay.

Thanks anyway

Glad to see I'm not the only one who knows what mains power is for although it comes in handy for others things as well.
