Robs,

If your interested in gaining more knowledge about towing why not consider one of the courses run by both the Caravan or the Caravan & Camping Club. They run either one or two day courses, I went on the Caravan Club's one day course last year and found it very good.

The two day course is more for complete beginners while the one day course is aimed at caravan manouvering. I decided to go after changing from a single axle to twin.

Hi Robs

The key to safe and successful towing is the safe loading of your caravan along with the usual safety and tyre checks.

Load heavier items over the axle of your caravan and avoid overloading.

Don't add too much weight at the back end or it could create a 'pendulum effect' which would be dangerous.

Have a look at the home page of this website under

Alway's place heavier/bulky item's directly over the axle,as regard's bike's,there is an adjustable pole that you can secure between the front berth's to prevent item's moving back and forth.

Don't forget though that the boot is alway's the safest place for the really heavy stuff.

it might be a simple case of tyres i had my van in for a service and had a phone call to say my nearside tyre has a bulge on the inside and needs changing. it was only two weeks ago i came back up the m5 from torquay to bristol at 60 mph, on checking the date it reads 1807 so although i checked the tyres i missed the bulge or it has happened taking the caravan to taunton for the service. hope this helps bill

Hi,

So far, nobody has given an explanation for any inverted caravan. We see the wrecks, but never learn what happened. I've never even seen a caravan throwing a wobbly.

Hi 602,

Speed will always be a common factor, after all how many caravans fall over when stationary?
