Hi

Could anyone advise me if it is illegal to park up a caravan on a public road and keep it there.

The road in question is in a village and not a major road.

It's not illegal BUT there are restrictions. The sidelights MUST be lit at night, the concession allowing cars to park without sidelights in lit built-up areas doesn't apply to trailers. The law of obstruction still applies, in that no vehicle has a right to park on the highway. If it's causing an obstruction, in the opinion of a police officer, it HAS to be moved on. In reality, it's simply not appropriate to use the highway to store a caravan. It's ok for an odd night but not permanently.
