PASSAT ESTATE

I HAVE A 2006 PASSAT ESTATE SPORT. I GOT A BRINK SWAN NECK TOWBAR FITTED, WHEN THE CARAVAN IS HITCHED ON THE CLEARANCE BETWEEN THE ALKO STABILISER AND THE REAR BUMPER IS ABOUT 20MM SO WHEN YOU TURN THE ALKO STABILISER IT RUBSAGAINST THE BUMPER.

HAS ANYONE ELSE EXPERIENCED THIS PROBLEM?

alko have there own tow ball that is more of a distance from the bumper .

The Al-Ko towball is only suitable for bolt on towbars . It will not fit on a Swan Neck towbar.

The correct distance between the centre of the towball and bumper should be 60mm for correct operation of the hitch.

Hi

We've a 2006 passat estate also. We bought the car new and had the towbar fitted at the dealers. It's just over 6cm away from the bumper and even at that it's seems very close! We have an Alko hitch on our caravan. My husband tested it out by putting the car on full lock and going round in a full circle - with me running round with it checking! (that was a sight, good job no one was around! lol) The hitch clears the bumper - but there's not much between it.

If I were you I'd definitely take it back to the installer and get him to do it again, or refund you and go elsewhere.
