Can you use this transponder whilst towing a caravan? The telepeage booths are often restricted height - ie with a barrier across.

Sorry clicked on the submit button too early!!

You will find unrestricted booths at all peage stations. The isolated, unmanned booths are always unrestricted as they have to serve cars and lorries.

I'm not sure how this would work - I know the unmanned booths have a high barrier, and a single payment system - but does this depend on the height of your car? Caravans are charged at Class 2, but lorries are a different classification, so you might find yourself being 'telepeaged' for more in tolls because the 'sensor' thinks you're outfit is a lorry.

I've just checked tolls from Calais to Senlis and for car and caravan it would be 25.60 euros, where a 'camion' under 3.5T would be 38.00 euros - so quite a significant difference - and over a longer journey could be much more.

My wife is disabled and can't reach the ticket machine so I always have to get out and run round the front of the car to get the ticket

So far we haven't had the problem paying as all booths have been manned

That's something to look forward to!!

The advantage of rolling through the tolls without delay and being invoiced automatically some time later appealed to me as well. However, I have been advised that it is necessary to have a French bank account for this system to work.

It looks good if you are in this position though!

I have received the bumf from the company and only a very small part is in English and the guy stated that a French bank is required.

Not looking good, unless someone can pick the bones out and give a workable response

I like the idea of having a telepage system but when I explored the system mentioned on this post my understanding was that you had to declare when you applied what classification of vehicle you had. (1,2, or 5) so if you could get the car plus caravan on the classification you were stuck with it. If you just had the car you would be still charged for caravan and car. This is how they differenciate between lorries, vans etc.

Hi,

Have just received a E-Mail from the company concerned and they have confirmed that a UK bank account or UK Credit Card is not accepted. You must have a French Bank account.

Regards

Nidge
