Dear All

Following the posting of a number of threads on various forums it has become apparent that somebody has gained access to password protected section of the Pegasus site.

I would just like to clarify therefore, that the Pegasus Launch on Wednesday 16th September is for the Bailey Retailer Network and Caravan Media only. We have no provision to accommodate members of the public at this event.

The public launch will be at the International Caravan & Motorhome Show (Stand 18-15) at the NEC on Tuesday 13th October.

The new Pegasus web site, www.baileypegasus.co.uk will go live on Thursday 17th September.

Thank you again for all your interest in this new range and once you have had a change to digest all the relevant information we would welcome your feedback.

Best Regards

Kelly

Seen it today in pc magazine. Doesnt look too different from others but upon reading the mag it seems impresive in terms of build quality. About time someone has changed the way caravans are built. 10 year anti water ingress is also impresive.

so far well done bailey, leading the way again!!!

I got my PC today well I think it will be a very best caravan when you can park your tow car on the roof of the van + 10 years no water ingress swift will have to mach it some time soon I like the front lockers 1 for gas 2 for wet lockers I think Pegasus will be the caravan to have in 2010

If it's as good as it looks then it will probably be a best seller - and next year everyone else will be trying to beat it. The problem is with all the other Bailey's which aren't built to the Pegasus standard - how will sales of those be affected. I can't imagine wanting to buy something with a five year anti-water warranty, when you can buy a ten year guarantee! I can see those who've currently got orders for new Baileys cursing the launch of this model as the depreciation on their model is bound to be more than it would have been pre-Pegasus.

We've been looking at a Senator Indiana - but were put off by wanting to see the Pegasus first - and then perhaps waiting for a 'Pegasus Indiana'!!!!!!

Just to add, I don't particularly like the look of the three different lockers at the front. In theory it's a good idea - but the middle locker in a different colour just looks odd.

Val A.

There is a equivalent model to the Indiana - It's the 524.

Hi Nigel - I thought so - so who's going to buy the Indiana's now? I don't think I would - but would certainly want to see the Pegasus equivalent in the flesh first. I like the 'light and airy' Indiana, and the very pale wood in the Series 6, but some of the other woods in the Bailey ranges are too dark for my taste, and perhaps the Pegasus might be? We're going to the NEC though, so will take a look there - along with half the world, I would imagine!

Val, you share the same fear as I do - with the revalutionary Pegasus out there, what is that going to do for resale values of Pageant S7 vans?

I can see Rangers surviving as they are lighter / cheaper, but the Pagenat and Senator are going to struggle to hold value.

And when other manufacturers 'catch up' and make their vans more waterproof (which they'll surely have to do to compete, if the Pegasus proves popular) it may be that vans from the late 'Noughties' (ie 2007/8/9) may well take a terrific hit in resale value. I'm glad we decided to hold off changing our current van!

Dear All,

This is all possible of course, but it's not very likely.

Demand for used tourers far outstrips supply at present and dealers are desperate to get part-exchanges through the gates, but manufacturers can't meet demand for new product. Also, Pegasus is a top-end product so there will continue to be healthy demand for good quality used caravans at all price levels as plenty of people simply can't afford

I agree it looks very impressive. I think Nigel is right regarding second hand vans still being in demand, but

It may mean though, that there are some really good deals on the 5 year warranty new Bailey Pageants and Senators still around as demonstrators on dealer forecourt. Perhaps not a bad time to look for our new Indiana after all????

That was published on another website either yesterday or early this morning. Apparently the dealership is one near to the Bailey factory. I still think they look nice vans inside, but just wonder about some of the practicalities such as three small lockers. Someone asked 'where will my sweeping brush go' - and it's things like that which can irritate you about a van!

Interesting to see quotes saying other manufactures will have to catch up! why?

Most give 6 years water ingress and i bet you have to have it serviced every year to keep this up?

Most people buy on their pocket and looks.

The different coloured middle locker looks very odd?

Everyone has different taste's doesnt do anything for me im afraid.

I can't knock Bailey for trying something new but there is no way I will be buying a Pegasus over a traditionally built caravan.

Ignoring all the hype and marketing the Pegasus is based on commercial vehicle construction, are area in which I am very familiar. The panels are clamped at the corners by aluminium extrusions. In commercial vehicles this is seen as a cheap low end type of build and it does leak. I am in no doubt the Pegasus will still leak! Instead of water getting into the core of the panels it will go into the interior of the caravan. Once a leak does break out it will be much more difficult to repair as the structural joint has to be removed to reseal. Producing panels with no timber is a good step forward though, as is the better insulation. I wonder if the floor is still plywood?

Repairs will also be a nightmare. If the front of the van gets damaged beyond repair the whole roof has to be changed? What are the insurance companies going to make of that!

A few other things I have noticed is the awning rail is very tight at the rear corner. It will be interesting to see how easy it is to thread the awning through while balancing on the caravan step! Some of the finishing looks a bit unrefined at the moment too, such as the rear corner caps. Because of the method of construction there is no posibility of any styling. I really think this is the ugliest caravan ever made!

I am sorry to be a doom and gloom merchant but I really don't trust this construction method based on past experience. I hope Bailey haven't got it wrong else the warranty claims over ten years could crimple them. Only time will tell.

Not the best looking van is it really- What is the point of the black locker door? Did they forget to paint it???

There are a few wild claims made about it "The most complete caravan ever built" "legend in the making" and "the best 4 season tourer on the market".

It seems that Bailey are diluting there range even further - look at the Ranger GT60 with a few extras. I think personally they should concentrate on better build quality.

It does look a bit bland no character, its built with commercial van type consruction and im afraid it does look like one.

I also noticed the the clamp thatt holds the sides together, its must be stuck to the sides surely as when i see commercial vans they flex.

To me it looks like a way of producing vans much more quickly to save on costs and time so more can be built?

Do Baileys really think that 637 miles over 3 years is the average miles a van gets towed,i do at least 3 times that in a year!

What mileage do others do in a year?

I have had a look at some of the pictures and what is the point of the 2 side lockers?where do you put your levelling blocks and all the other items that you normally put in the front locker,my friend puts his wastemaster in his.

The side corners all seem to be finished off with stuck on plastic mouldings.

The bed that lifts up has the blown air outlet in the locker why?surely the heat from these are that great anyway but to put under the seating seems a strange choice.

Havent other manufacturers had problems with condensation on the inside of aluminimum window frames.

Looks like a labour saving way to build a van

We do approximately 5,000 miles a year with the caravan - two trips to southern France, and more locally!

I've just realised that at more than 5,000 a year, and nine years old, our old Speedbird has now done 45,000 - 50,000 miles!!!! No wonder the polish on the front needs a good shine - we've removed a good few dead flies from it over those miles and years!

Still, having cleaned it up and photographed it to advertise for sale, we've now thought better of it and will be saving our money instead. We still love it, and it's going to France, into undercover storage (which will save us
