Pets on the Western Channel

Living in Hampshire, we usually use Portsmouth as our port of departure but this will be the first year travelling with a dog. We are concerned it may be too long a crossing. Do any of you have experience of pets on this route and the avilability of vets around Oiustreham? Are they available Saturdays?

Weve done plymouth to Roscoff with the dog. We went overnight so he is used to being caged at night, and no problem. on the way back I was a bit worried as it was an afternoon trip, he was just chillin when we got back to the car.

Fresh water in his cage and he was fine both ways. He is used to being left on his own every day for 4/5 hours anyway.

As for vets, we got our vet in Brittany from the brittany ferry website, dont know if they work on sturday though. You should book before you go to make sure you have got an appointment.

If you are sailing on the Bretagne or the Pont Aven, they have Kennels which might be better than the dog sleeping in the car.

Thanks for the advice (reassurance) and we have gone ahead and booked morning sailings Portsmouth/Ouistreham. After ashort walk 'Harry' usually sleeps until afternnon, so it will be within his routine.
