I came up behind a car today i didn't know existed. The Peugeot 2008 SUV. Is it any good for towing a light caravan, does anyone know? The mrs is always saying the Navara truck we use is a bit overkill, which it is, i suppose. But i don't know what i'd swap it for. I don't want a regular 'car', i want something up off the ground, for want of a better description. TBH i dont like the look of a lot of SUV's, but this one seemed to look 'different'. So different, that its got me asking questions about it! Its not going to match the Navara for pulling power or lugging bulk, but i can live with that.
So, anyone got one?

The car is very light and the best towing ability is 1,300 kg. A petrol version did turn up at one tow car awards test and what they said can be found at shttps://www.thetowcarawards.com/tow-car/peugeot-208/.
The magazines full test can be found at https://www.practicalcaravan.com/reviews/tow-car/41921-peugeot-2008.
I am afraid for the money there are better options, although it looks possible if you have a very light caravan.

You can have a perfectly good caravan with a MTPLM of 1300 kg. Mine is that weight and would fulfill a lot of people’s needs very well. Then there are the even lighter and smaller Xplore and Arriva and Adrias too. With a payload of 191 kg ( in new money) mine puts many heavier and bigger vans to shame. It all depends on what the OP is looking for.

PS and mine will be looking for a new home shortly.

Thanks for this. Looking at the 'test' car, theres a newer, better-looking model out now (the one i saw). Whether the performance is any more enhanced, i don't yet know? On the face of it, i am not overly discouraged yet.

Well, it turns out this vehicles top whack trailer weight is only actually 1200kg, which is too near the mark for my liking. So its back to the 'drawing board' for a replacement.

In general the French "SUV's" are light on towing weight... I had to change a Kadjar for the Kuga, because the towing limit was (IIRC) about 1400kg

1400 is better than 1200! Was there much room in the Renault with 2 peoples stuff?

You need to look at the latest models with 1.7 diesel, size wise it would have been fine! The 1.5 diesel only goes up to 1350 kg

For clarity it is best to check the cars Gross Train Weight (GTW) and Gross Vehicle Weight (GVW) on the data plate.

GTW - GVW = the maximum limit for cars towed weight limit.

Some manufactures quote their max towed weight when teh car is empty, and this inflates the value, but as soon as you carry any payload or passengers in the car the towed weight limit reduces by the same amount.
