Can anyone tell me how to remove the "plasticy" taste from the drinking water in my `van. I have had a number of vans over the years, the last two were brand new. I always flush the system and water container at least yearly.I have used Milton and Purecleans. I renew the filters. I tend to now fill a separate container from the Site tap just for drinking water and for Tea. I observe that many others on site do the same.

We’re currently investigating an issue related to the forum theme and styling that is impacting page layout and visual formatting. We always use our on board tank ( & that is plastic ) for water storage, but we use a water filter jug that fits into the fridge door, never had any bad tastes when making tea or anything else.
I do seem to remember a problem a while ago with some vans that had new pipes fitted because of the plastici taste problem

We use a Brita water filter jug and never have a problem been doing this for the last 15 years.
Like David L, we don't drink anything from the Aquaroll water supply. We keep a 5 litre bottle at the side of the sink and use that for cooking, kettle, and drinking water, filling it up direct from the site taps. We once took apart our Aquaroll pump and pipes and were horrified at the black slime on the inside of both pump and pipes (and Yes, we do clean and sterilise everything regularly, letting it dry well before re-use). The water supply is now only used occasionally for washing up and hand-washing - we tend to use the site facilities for everything else.

If you could see inside the water pipes of caravans you would never consider drinking from the caravan water system, at least without boiling the water first.
No matter how often you flush the system with sterilising solution there is always residual water left behind which stagnates inside the pipework until the system is used next time out.
We always use a container to fetch fresh drinking water and water for making tea from site taps, or if they look a bit iffy we use supermarket bottled water at about 17p a litre.

I (not at the same time !) drink, boil and wash in the water that comes out the taps at home but in sixty years I have never sterilised or cleaned the taps or pipework in the house, not do I have any idea what lurks in the pipes etc. outside. Therefore, why should I worry about a nice caravanny taste that accompanies my water in the caravan. After all I do cleanse the whole system after each long lay up, including my Aquaroll & Pump etc. Whatever migh be left in the system after flushing, will probably be there forever and is probably harmless anyway. How can you be sure that the bottle your bottled water came in is completely safe or is your own container really clean ? Have you noticed the dead fly at the bottom of a clean glass/cup from out of the cupboard ?

Thank you for all your replies. I have decided to carry on with the separate container for drinking water.
We sterilise our water system completely every year and if we go more than a few weeks without using the caravan I always give it a good flush through before using it, I change the filter without fail every year as well, we use the water coming in through from our aqua roll for drinking, not that I guess we drink loads of water other than copious amounts of coffee and tea, we use it for cooking and teeth brushing and have never once noticed any plastic taste or any other unusual taste at all, when I clean the pipe work out I always work on the assumption of a bit stronger the solution is better than a bit weaker and at the same time I fill the aqua roll with the same concentration of solution and leave the mix in the pipes and the aqua for hours, give it a good flush and touch wood no one has to this day gone down with any bug from drinking it.
