Plug hole smells

Hi
I cleaned my water system at the start of the season , but I am now getting some smells up through the plug holes of the sink in the bathroom. What's the best thing to put down the sink that won't do any damage to get rid of the smells. I was thinking maybe bicarbonate of soda don't want to put bleach or anything like that down

Are you sure the smell is coming from the pipework itself, as it could be your waste water container with the smell coming up through the pipe?

Hi thanks for reply no it's not the waste water container as not in usethe caravan is at storage site

Is there a trap? Have you cleared it? Might be stale water in there from the time in storage.

I use normal gel drain cleaner poured down the plug hole's and left for a while, and then followed by a kettle of hot water or hot water from the tap ... as it's at storage it's still possible to do it there..

Similar as King Sproket.
We use Fenwick Fendox waste water system cleaner. Temporarily blank off the waste outlets. Cling film and closing the flaps will do. Fill the shower tray basin and kitchen sink with the cleaner. Leave for the time stated on the instructions and then rinse through.
You are correct not using bleach.It can damage plastics.

Pouring coke or similar into a sealed pipe and leaving overnight will clear them out. Probably a better use than drinking it. Put a tooth in a glass of coke overnight and see what happens 😛 😛

We are having the same problem and was wondering if running a diluted sterilising solution down sealing the drain and leaving it for a while then washing out?

Sterilising solution like Milton is basically dilute bleach. OK if you don't leave it in there very long and you give it a good flush through. Bleach can cause pitting of metal surfaces. If left too long. Washing soda is good, made into a solution with hot water, and flush through. Note:That's washing soda ( soda crystals) NOT caustic soda.

A lot of the smelly gunge sits just under the sink drain hole sticking to the underside of the chrome fitting. Its just a case of unscrewing the drain plug from the sink and cleaning it. Just pouring cleaner down the sink will not clear this gunge
I also use Zoflora to neutralise any waste pipe whiffs.

You will never solve this unless you use a water trap like a domestic set up. They are easy to fit and readily available from the likes of CAK tanks

Normally caravans ,if that is what you are talking about, do not have traps in the pipeline but you can buy the ones that are fitted to motorhomes and introduce them into the pipes of your caravan only problem is they tend to slow the flow a little bit . If on a windy day that is what can happen the smells from the waste hog blows up the pipes but traps if fitted stop that
