Points

A Swindon motorist is driving around with 39 penalty points on their licence, a BBC Freedom of Information request has revealed today. The other amazing point is that there are 638 motorists in the South West with more than 12 points on their licence.

Can anyone beat this?

how on earth did they manage that??

not exactly beat it but one of our contract drivers who was delivering to a new customer once went through a set of 4 speed cameras in each direction in a 40mph zone thinking the speed limit was 50mph (it was either side of the streach with cameras on) and got flashed 8 times so in theory amassed 24 points and £480 in fines for one journey.

however the magistrate took the view that it was only one combined offence in each direction so fined him £120 and 6pts a very lucky boy me thinks,

A friend of my OH is currently still driving with more than 12 points on his licence. Some magistrates appear to take the perhaps 'sensible' view that someone working in a safety critical situation, who sometimes has to get to an incident quickly, may have 'mitigating circumstances' and some magistrates are just as aware as the rest of us how unfair SOME of these speeding fines can be. Mind you 39 points is perhaps a bit of excessive leniency, but then we don't know the circumstances. It may just have been an incident like the one mentioned above.

At work the police would send our bosses the pic of us speeding through a speed camera. They then had to verify it that we were actually responding to a 999 call. Our driving licences were also checked by senior staff to see if we had got any points outside of the service.

There was a Freedom of Information request a few months back regarding the number of police officers caught speeding ie not on a 999 call or similar. The upshot was that less than 10% were prosecuted and a couple of forces (GMP and Merseyside) failed to prosecute any offender
