Somewhere recently I saw an advert for plastic spikes that fit in the bottom pole of TV arials allowing them to be pushed into soft ground and thus stabilised against winds. Anyone know where these can be bought - my local dealer has never heard of them?

How about a metal awning peg wedged into the bottom of the pole or even lashed to it with plastic ties. I use a short length of broom shank, drilled to take the peg which only has to protrude a couple of inches, wedged firmly in the pole.

Hi Mike E,

Thanks for your suggestions. I must be getting past my sell by date. Never even thought of making something up myself but certainly will now.

Hi,

I used a smaller size jockey wheel amount on the other side of the A frame. On the Alko chassis there is a spare hole and a suitable bolt done up nice and tight does the job. If it's really windy I put 3 guy ropes on from the front hitch to both grab/pull handles up to the top of the poles, where there is another suitable hole. Works a treat.

Thanks all. Glenn I think you may have my ideal solution by using the spike from garden solar lights. Just happen to have some that are now kn*****ed. Great use for them.
