Here we go aagin yet another tax FORCED upon the people of not so great britain I know that im not a wagon driver and I dont live in London but when the local councils and the government see how much extra money this TAX brings into there coffers how long will it be before they all bring it in.

If wagons dont get in to london how do they suggest the shops, pubs and restaurants get there stock and whast will happen to the prices of things.Inevertably they will go up AGAIN soon the old and infirm and the poor will have to make life thratening decisions do they keep warm over the cold snap or do they eat.

Did anyone see the increases in tax and the cost of living since the labour government came to power and the reduction in wagesin the sunday papers?REDICULOUS!!!!

Anyway i havent been on the site for a while and its good to see some of the old names back posting

Should cities and towns follow suit then it will be a classic case of out of town shopping area springing up all over the green belt area. Local authorities will be too frightened to fight a major developer in the courts so will give in under planning laws. Also any major developer has to pay a levy to the local authority under planning laws plus the town and country planning and building control fees. Local authorities are on a money spinner no matter which way the law goes.

Forgot to mention a report on the evening news on BBC where an eminent so called scientist wants all cars with a worse fuel consumption than 35mpg to be bannned from the road. Another crazy eco warrier trying to win brownie points.

Hardly an eco-warrior - he is the ex chairman of Shell.

I do not agree with banning these cars but in the end it could end up with the cars that could be subject to this being able to do more than 35 mpg which would not be a bad thing, we had a '92 Shogun which could better 25 mpg without too much fuss so I guess a car that could better 35 mpg average and still tow our biggest vans is not too far off or indeed here now.

I do not like the idea of banning cars on these grounds or hiking road tax for them but I am all for car manufacturers giving us more mpg.

If this ban became real my Triumph Vitesse would never see light of day again.

So glad he did not mention cars towing caravans, not many people on this web site can say that when towing they do not drop below 35 mpg.

We are talking about the 1st phase.

In the next year or so motor homes that do not have euro 3 / 4 engines will fall foul of the restrictions, & that means even if you live in the area & go out for a week end you get stung going out & coming back.

Large cars get caught in the 3rd phase.

We have been warned

COME COME

Some-one has to keep these MPs in the life style they have become a custom too.

the Sunday papers are saying they are thinking of bring back the light TAX?
Quote ..... Sunday papers are saying they are thinking of bring back the light TAX?

Well people are complaining that they can't see the stars because of light pollution. How about a noise pollution tax as well to cut down the noise of traffic, aircraft and Rap.

The Gower coast has now been declared a "dark area" and all pubs, shops, etc., are to turn all lights off after closing in the interest of star gazers. The item reported on the news was that on a clear night it is possible to see over 20000 stars from the Gower - no mention whether it was by eye or using some form of telescope (who counted them I do not know). Apparently it is 5 times as many as can be seen from Swansea and 20000 times as many as can be seen from Port Talbot LOL. There was a cartoon which depicted the M4 motorway approaching Port Talbot with a sign reading "On a clear day from here you can see Port Talbot". Written underneath the sign was "If you can see Port Talbot then the steel works are on strike".

I hate taxation!

We continually receive missives from governments of all political persuasions to hold our pay claims in check, yet the ministers see fit to renege on properly structured claims for the Police Nurses and other public service employees.

Politicians vote them selves large salary increases, but worst of all is the Chancellor who is constantly trying to increase the amount of taxes we all pay.

Consider the fact that the exchequer benefits perfectly in step with inflation as VAT revenue goes up every time a price rise occurs. Personal taxation also increases as we earn more, so the exchequer should be inflation proof, yet budget on budget we end up giving more of our money to the taxman.

Now we are being told that we need to pay more tax to offset global warming! How does putting money into the hands of Ken Livingstone or Alistair Darling/Gordon Brown actually help to reduce GW?

I do wonder what the real growth of the exchequer is? I have a suspicion that it is probably more than double inflation most years.

Surely the same prudence we have to use for our own incomes should be applied to No 11.
