On 10 May my dealer ordered an awning rail for my 2008 Stirling Europa from Swift. To date my van still has a damaged rail fitted since Swift have not suppied a new rail.

Now they are going to close for 3 weeks so the earliest date that they can supply is mid August, 14 weeks after the order!!!!

Never again will I buy from Swift.

Hi Barry

Place a post on " http://www.swift-talk.co.uk/".

They are pretty good on sorting out Swift problems.

Are you sure it's not your dealer?

Cheers

Knowing Autovan in Wimborne, if they say the problem is Swift end, then it is.

They are an excellent dealer/repairer who go that extra mile to provide good customer relations.

There is no delay in obtaining an awning rail from Swift. My dealer damaged one of mine 6 weeks ago, I let them know within a couple of days and sent photos to them. They ordered the rail and I had a phone call 2 weeks ago letting me know the rail had arrived.

People should ensure all of the facts before slagging off the manufacture, It maybe that they didnt get the order from the dealer, it may be the dealer didnt order it, it may be that swift lost the order ask the dealer for the order no. and then post that on Swift forum to see if they can help.

Im nothing to do with swift but do get frustrated when people just blaim them. if it was swifts fault fine but calculate all the info first.

What I don't understand is why it takes 6 weeks to supply a length of awning rail anyway. I believe it is a standard profile that must be used by the mile, a 6 hour turnround would not seem too unreasonable to me. This is not aimed specifically at Swift, (I have one and very pleased too) I realise you cannot really compare the caravan and car industries but in many cases your local garage will phone up and have the spares delivered in a matter of hours. There is of course usually a difference in the market size and scale of production but many caravan spares are proprietary items, not neccesarily low volume model specific bits. I think the caravan industry generally has some way to go on spares service.

So, if its a standard profile and used by the mile then why did the dealer who specialises in repairs and conversions not have it in stock?

The post started off as "poor service from Swift" who appear to have complied with their published leadtime for spares. I am not saying I agree with 6 weeks but nevertheless that is the current target for swift. They have done exactly as they claim.

There may be supplies of parts in the factory but if it was your business and you need the stock to complete a

So Barry

We now seem to have evidence that your dealer did not order the part until the 10th June 2010!

Hardly Swift's fault.

I was going to add that our awning rail has been damaged twice - both sides of the van, and both rails were supplied quickly by Swift, and replaced quickly by our local dealers.
