'popping' grill

the flame in the grill in our caravan when on high setting makes

an unusual popping sound and the flame flickers at high speed to the left of the burner. why is this? have left it on for ages to see if it clears itself but it does not, use butane gas, would changing to propane make any difference?

any ideas?

thanks

How old is the van?

Usually this kind of problem is caused by partially blocked jets on the burner, mainly grease.

james, it is more than likely tobe either grease or rust.

As the burner needs to be dismantled you would be advised to get a quaified engineer to service the grill

Why is it that cooker makers cant make a good grill, i have noy had a good one yet. Come on Spinflow get it together and be a trail blazer, make a good grill, you must surly read feed back on forums etc and realise the bad comments they get.

have had a look with a mirror to see what its like, no grease etc but looks a bit rusty, have cleaned the burner with an old tooth brush and a bit of soot/carbon dropped out, run it for a while, (did a bit of toast while running it) seems to be much better now

...grills in caravans suffer from lack of use causing them to rust far more than grills on domestic cookers that tend to be kept in warmer/drier environments.

There is usually a slot gas nozzle on the supply side of the burner that ignites to prevent the possibility of only one side of the main burner being lit. When working properly it allows a flame to travel from the lit side to the unlit side of the main burner should that occur.

This slot gas nozzle can be partially blocked by rust
