Can anyone reccomend a reasonably lightweight porch awning for our Sterling Eccles 586, we have been look at the Kampa Rally 260 but wondered if there were any others worth considering. We bought a bradcote full awning for our previous caravan but would prefer a porch awning this time as i struggle to help the OH with the heavier full awnings due to a bad back. Thank you.

We have the Kampa rally 360 good lightweight product and really pleased with it
If you go for it make sure you get the full monty, rear poles, storm straps and the monsoon poles, ours has been through some very heavy wind and rain.
Sir Roger on here (and one other cant remember who) has the new Kampa Air expensive but they are both very happy with it
Sir Roger is away at the moment but there is a thread on here some where.

Was it the Kampa that you had at Poston Mill last year? Didn't it suffer from bad condensation in the cold weather, like most of the lightweight fabrics do, as they don't breathe as well? Whereas the heavier 'normal' awning material that our porch is made from seems to suffer less.

Hello foxd.
i wanted an awning I could easily erect on my own so recently bought the KAMPA Rally Air 260.
In my opinion it is very easy to erect and gives the impression of being extremely sturdy.
Obviously the jury is out on the long term use of these awnings with them being new to the market but I have no reason to believe they won't last just as long as any other awning.
with regards to the air frame I firmly believe from three outings that the only way to damage them would be by malicious abuse.

Now the drawbacks. (I have a couple of post on the site re- my purchase of the awning) The first one I fetched had a slight amount of damage to the door fly screen, the supplier changed it for me and the replacement I have used twice now and I love it. An issue I have found is that unlike traditional pole awnings the air frame is not adjustable so my second site had a slope where the land sloped upwards from the van. With a normal awning you could adjust the front legs slightly downwards to compensate for that but the way with the air frame was to let it find its own level which meant the back of the awning was about 6" away from the van at the bottom. Thus giving a slightly larger gap than I would have liked although the awning was still perfectly usable and cushioned up ok a couple of foot from the ground.
not a problem to me but worth the mention.
The most obvious other drawback is the cost in relationship to more traditional porch. I got round this using the local GUMTREE free adds sales site I sold the old awning, a large unused awning carpet and some items of fishing equipment that had for years decorated my garage. Clearing £340. Made me feel good about the final cost plus de-cluttered the garage a bit.
based on my experience to date "would I buy another". YES I would.
No problem with deflation and putting back in the bag. Just open the valves pull free of the van by this time most of the air is out then fold up and back in the bag.
cheers for now and all the best with whatever you decide to do.
regards Brian

Sir WC
Only use it when the sun shine's now

On a serious note yes it was the one we used at poston but seemed to have over come most of the condensation problems
It has the interior fly screen which is zipped at the top and leave the tops of the outer door unzipped this creates an air flow through the awning eliminating most (not all) of the condensation. Perhaps when recommending in the future I should make others aware

But on saying that we also use a smaller Dorema for the two of us and that still condensates on occasions.

hi
I did look at the Kampa Rally air but a bit expensive and as i paid over £500 for a full bradcote awning which i can no longer use (new caravan) am a bit reluctant to spend so much again. Wouldnt mind seeing the Kampa Rally air in action though before deciding. I suppose at the end of the day its personal preference and what might work for some doesnt for others hence good and bad reviews.
Thanks for feedback.
