Porch awning position

Hi

We've ordered a 2008 Bailey Senator Indiana S6 and decided to visit the dealer to see how our Isabella Magnum porch awning would sit on the van by measuring. Unfortunately wherever it's positioned on the rail it looks like it will go over the top of a window. My question is, would this be normal practice and would there be any problems or would it be best to change the awning? We haven't had the awning very long and it missed all the obstructions on our previous van.

It is better not to have it over a window as it could scratch it. We have a small porch and on the current van it will either be over the lounge window or the small side window half way up the van side, its over the side window. Your indiana is the same layout as mine so it may be the same. I personally would not change the awning for that.

The awning will actually be either over the lounge window or the bedroom window. Probably the bedroom. Not ideal but I think I'll have to try to protect the window somehow, bit of a pain(if you'll excuse the pun). We don't get the van until mid July so it'll be trial and error.

It looks like another one for 1001 uses for pipe lagging by caravanners. Try putting a length of foam pipe lagging over the edge of the awning where it covers your window.

It will most definitely fret the surface of the window at some time or other when its windy. Mine goes over the loo window but there I live can with it.

I have found that putting a strip of good quality cling film over the "offending" window works well.

Not wishing to damped what on the face of it seems a good idea but:

I recall there have been some serious micro-crazing issues where cling film was used on caravan windows. Something to do with the plasticizers in it affecting the acrylic.

The context was with recommendation by one or more of the cover manufacturers, to avoid fretting marks. Obviously here it was on for some while but in your case only for a short time; however I would be extremely wary of doing it at all as some residual plasticizer will be left.

I'm going to wait till I get the van home, in July, and have a look. I'll take your comments on board. We're off in our current van next week so I'll have a closer look at the awning when it's up.
