im thinking about getting a pyramid pdq awning has any one got one and what are they like

We have been using a pdq for over a year, we love it BUT we are on our third one since buying it as 2 had to be replaced. 1st one because water proofing had gone and second one got torn in high winds. Top marks for Towsure though as they replaced both times no bother.

We have been looking at the ultima 390 but will stick with our replacement pdq for now. Very easy to erect and great that it travels on side of van. Hope this helps.

we bought a PDQ awning last spring and would not be without it now very quick and easy to erect and quite large for a porch awning ideal for short breaks

We had a pdq and were not too happy with it , we swopped it with pyramid for the portaporch and have used that twice .We have now purchased a Dorema porch awning as the portaporch was not for us for various reasons, going to try and recoup some of my money and put the portaporch up for sale on ebay.

Am I right in thinking that the PDQ awning actually STAYS on the side of the van?

If this is the case - how do you go on if you want to erect your full-size awning?

Hi , yes the standard pdq and the portaporch both can stay on the awning rail, they are stowed in their own zipped bag which is held in place on the awning rail by two grub screws one at each end to stop it sliding about.If you want to use a full awning then you need to remove the pdq or you can have a second awning rail fitted below the original in the appropriate place to accomodate the pdq.This was one of the reasons why we have decided to part with ours, it seemed like a good idea at the time, but in practice ???.

i would recommend no probs with mine, carry on awning rail if you like or remove to fit full awning.

it only takes afew mins to remove and put in bag.

if you know you are only going to use pdq then leave full awning at home or vice versa.

They look a little flimsy - are they actually waterproof?

What about high winds? The website videos suggests that they come with tie-downs....are they effective?

Should I buy something else? If so - WHAT???

ours stood up to a full blown gale for 4 days the material is similar to a tent and is basically a sound piece of kit.

there was a slight drip of water after days of major rain,i also had to lift roof to assist water run off.a problem you may have with any heavy duty awning.

the tie down straps form an integral part of anchoring the assembly down.

all in all worth considering especially if you intend flitting sites regularly or for quick weekend get a ways.

material can be reproofed same as a tent.
