Portsmouth/Bilbao Ferry : Cessation

I have not heard anything about this in the UK, but we were in Spain last week and read in a local paper that the Portsmouth/Bilbao ferry was to cease operation in October this year, due to accumulating losses. The report said that normal service will be continued until October. Any bookings past that date will be refunded or alternatives found (???).

Have just looked at the P&O website and yes its going to finish on 27th September. They state that they need another ship for the route and its loosing too much money to justify it.

We did Portsmouth Santander last June on Brttany Ferries and it was a really good crossing. Its a bit further than Bilbao if you are driving to France but the actual crossing is quicker.

We like the two night outward crossing - its like beginning your holiday with a short cruise!! We've never used any Brittany Ferries crossings as they are always more expensive. Wouldn't use Bilbao or Santander to go to France anyway.
