Am planning to take two grandaughters (currently 9 years and 21 months old) to France for a long weekend next May. The site where I am planning to take them (Camping-Campix in St Leu d'Esserent) is a 5 hour journey and can not be started until the 9 year old has come out of schook. As arriving at the Camp Site at 9 p.m. or later with a toddler after 5 hours of travel may not be realistic I am looking for an overnight stay not too far from Calais. Any suggestions ?

Alun

Two popular sites near Calais are Chateau de Gandspette and Le Bien Assise. Both are of good quality.

Alun, stayed at Le bien Assise only 3 nights ago on our way home. Excellent site with plenty to do for children, & only about 20 minutes from Calais.

If it is just an overnight stop you need you may like to look at Camping les Erables at Escalles - just south of Calais, on the coast. We stayed over night before returning home 2 years ago and were made very welcome by the owners. Its basic but has all the stuff you need for an overnight (EHU, WC, showers etc) and if you get the right pitch ie overlooking the sea you can see the street lights of Dover!
