Practical Caravan gets ready for the 2014 Tow Car Awards testing!

Good morning all. Here's a quick blog from our tow car expert David Motton about the cars he is looking forward to sampling across our test days for the 2014 Tow Car Awards – click here to read more! What cars would you like to see tested and what are your top tugs?

I would like to see the new Subaru Forester and XV tested. I guess that the Peugeot 308 SW and new Skoda Octavia 4WD Scout will be released too late for the 2014 Awards.
Ive gone off the RR Sport as any car that needs 2 days to lift its body off the chassis in order to effect quite a number of engine repairs I would deem as impractical! Still if you have got £76K to buy one, whats another £2-3k to replace/repair an exhaust manifold?

At least PC mag do test the latest cars, unlike the CC, i asked them a year ago when they would test the new Mazda CX-5.
They said there was no test on the horizon, dispite the car being released in 2012 !

I will be interested in seeing the reports but still think that the Octavia and others under 1500 kg are simply too light to be considered tow car of the year as they cannot tow a large enough selection of caravans to take the title. I am not saying you need to go for the Range Rover but something that can tow a decent number of caravans not just the very light ones.

Wouldnt mind seeing a test of the new Outlander PHEV....if one is available....oh, and if when the UK specs are released it can actually tow!
On a serious note, if it has a decent tow capability, and the price is right, its a very interesting vehicle for company car drivers due to the low BiK tax bracket......that is until that gets raised of course!

Rob,

Obviously I can't say what is and what isn't being tested at this year's event, BUT it might pay you to watch this space just in case................. 😗
