Pre stabiliser and Breakaway cable

I seem to remember when I were a lad, in 1970 I went caravanning with an aunt and uncle in a new Europa 390. There were no breakaway cables or stabilers in those days. When were they introduced?

Big Al, when you was a lad they had a man walking in front of the car with a flag. It was his job to sort out any problems such as chasing after stray caravans coming loose from the car.

A close look at the following picture of an AlKo chassis, dated 1968, suggests that it already had a breakaway cable:

Dave

When I were a lad there were no cheeky young rascals like you around, they were seen and not heard.

Hi Lutz.

I definatly remember hitching the caravan to the car (an Austin 1800)and there was only the ball to hitch and the 7N plug to connect.
