Hi.
Ive been browsing the classified ads and have noticed how expensive the used Sorrentos are.
I realise they are a good tow car (I used to own one) and have had good reviews, but I still think they are a little pricey.
One in particular which caught my eye is a "57" reg CRDI XS Auto,2 owners with 53k on the clock and a full sevice history.
5 months MOT and being advertised at a dealers (non Kia)the price is £10,949
Anyone else think they are a little overpriced?

Hi Ade
Whilst not as sophisticated as the VW Touareg the 2003 - 2009 Sorentos have proven themselves to be a very remarkable and reliable tug capable of towing any UK caravan on the market.
You only have to walk around a caravan site to see how many are being used for towing.
When Kia abandoned the model for a totally new concept I believe they shot themselves in the foot. I'd like to have seen a more powerful and economic engine fitted to the original Sorento body. Now they are no longer available new , lowish mileage ones are at a premium, hence I suspect the prices you have seen. I've had mine from new and at 104K miles she still goes very well.
It's also worth noting that like Skoda, the Kia name, with Hyundai has a very good quality reputation as borne out in the JD Power surveys.
I guess it's a matter of supply and demand.

Its cheap compared to a 2009 Xtrail Aventura, I've seen my car at 17K from a dealer on auto trader.

The thing that's driving up prices is the price new, both the Sorento and xtrail are now in the high 20's on cost.

The only cheap cars are cars nobody wants to buy.

Why don't you price a santa fe up?

Yes I agree with both replies.
I have actually looked at the Santa Fe (would prefer the 7 seat version for flexibility and the self levelling suspension)and have found they are also a little too highly priced.(maybe I need to accept that more popular vehicles will tend to attract a higher price).
Strange though that a couple of dealers have only allowed me between £6,900-£7,400 for my CRV which (at the time) I thought would hold its price in the following years that I purchased it.
Oh well....will keep looking and saving the pennies

I echo the sentiments here.

Another rags to riches story is the Skoda marque, It seems that since VW took a controlling interest, the model range has improved and the build quality now means they hold their values far better than some other more illustrious makes.

This time last year my 04 XS auto with 62k miles sold within two days at just under £9k. Looking at the choice of suitable large 4wd tugs the Sorento consistently gets good reviews as a sensible used buy which is reliable and not too expensive to run. The laws of supply and demand operate and unfortunately impact used prices as the new model Sorento has no real flow across from the old model unlike FL1-2 and D1-4.

The price is spot on .I live a matter of yards from the UK largest Kia dealer and pass daily, the price of the old model have held their own since the new model came out. When salesman tried to get me interested in changing mine i told him Kia had shot themselves in the foot as regards a towing car. That is why i will stick with my Auto as long as possible.

Hi georgeandade
Both the Santa Fe and the Kia Sorento do seem to hold their price unfortunately as i am also looking for either one.
I am also chasing either a Sorento or a Santa Fe although around the 04/05 in the year and have spotted quite a few on eVilBay for between 5000 - 7500GBP with mileage anywhere between 65,000 - 80,000.
One thing i will say to any members contemplating either of these vehicle is if you want one with cruise control then check them out very carefully as there was a lot made minus the cruise control.
I nearly got caught out myself as i was looking at a Santa Fe on the net last week, near enough went ahead sending the dealer a deposit automatically assuming it had cruise only to find out it did not.
I do not know if PC has a For Sale section but if any members either have or know of any of the above type of vehicles for sale then could they get in contact with me via the forum or email me at: patant12@gmail.com
Apologies to georgeandade for slightly going off track.
Tony
