Problem with Rear Corner Steadies

Hi there,

My parents have a 1988 Bailey Pageant 2 berth caravan, and it seems to have developed a problem with both rear corner steadies.

When you lower the steadies into position, they will touch the ground but you then can't get that final turn to secure them firmly as they just keep slipping, and will not tighten up.

Also when you stand in the rear of the van you will suddenly feel a bump and the caravan will drop an inch or 2, when you go outside the corner steadies are no longer touching ground.

Any help, advice or suggestions on this would be gratefully received, also as to likely costs involved and how simple it may be to repair.

Many Thanks

Andrew.

Sounds like the threads have gone, your parents could either get new ones and fit them, you can get them from accessory shops or they could try using blocks, so they don`t have to wind the legs down too much to see if it is only in certain spots that they give way

Andrew,

I'm afraid that its going to be 2 new corner steadies, it sounds like either the screw thread or the sliding nuts that operate the steady (make it go up or down) have failed & the only answer is replacements.

They bolt onto the chassis or the chassis out riggers & replacement is failry straight forward providing you soak the fixing bolts with penetrating fluid for a few days prior to removal.

A pair of normal duty steadies will be in the region of

Andrew,as said it is either the thread bar or the block that moves along it or a combination, both are available without buying the whole steady.Around 1986-1988 the block that moves was made of nylon and not metal and was prone to either the thread going or the lugs breaking off (I know from personal experience)whichever it is they are easy to change the only alternative is buy a complete steady or get used ones from a breaker
