As a retired Kent Police Traffic Officer I feel totally embarressed by the current situation. I have watched on the news in completed discust as I have watched A Helicopter and Coast Guard personnel giving out water to the queueing public (Highly commendeble on their part) but WHERE are the Kent Police motorway patrols (Oh sorry they do not have any at this time, although they will tell you they have) surely a long queue of nearly 10 miles of traffic requires professional motorway trained officers to deal with it, not Highways Agency personnel who are definately not professionals.
Like Operation Stack when its implimented it is a total farce. I was serving when it first started in 1986 and it would never have been like this.
Absolutely discusting.

Are the French checking security this rigorously on borders with other countries or just Britain? Probably just Britain.

Nice to know that they are awake, when I went across in May they were asleep. I am hoping for the same when I go at the begining of August. Bless them

What we have seen unfolding on news channels in last the few days at Dover is an utter and unmitigated disgrace.
If there is one weekend in the whole year when such large numbers of the general public could be forecast to be using Dover it is this one. If, as an earlier poster has said, this could be due to Brexit then I think that two can play at that game. What are our politicians I/e the latest crop doing about this?
I also agree with the point made that if the French were applying similar measures at their other borders maybe the UK would still be in the EU....
rant over,

Just checked, as we travel tomorrow at 4am and it looks like the roads are all clear, so no problems.
Remember, this effects all the people travelling, all our tourists to the UK, it unfortunatley makes the French Border control, look incompetent. But I would rather be late and safe, than try and swim to a shore.

From what I hear the roads are not clear but the delays are considerably less, but may easily appear again at short notice. I would check before setting off and allow plenty of time to get there, although I gather the ferries will stick you on the next one if you miss yours due to the problems.

I have had a check around the French borders with other countries and you can rest assured that the only border that is being really checked is THE BRITISH. It would appear that the Kermits are up to their usual tricks

Unfortunately the Police these days cannot be bothered to deal with anything on the road network. The french have nothing to fear from British tourists but they are not allowed to check people coming from elsewhere within Europe. The problem that the french have is home grown.

When we came through Dover Port at Midnight, it was a Britich Policeman, checking our Passports, at the Frenchborder control.
Our Campsite manager, Serge, loved the Cumberland Sausages and strong Chedder cheese we brought them.
