Problems with importing a European built caravan

I expext this topic has been covered before but so far I can't find the threads. Also the rules may have changed.

Does anyone have experience of such import, how difficult is it, is it financially worth while, what about possible warranty and insurance issues ?
The idea would be to buy new (say Hobby or Burstner). European spec. perhaps without full cooker etc. and door on the 'other' side would be fine.
I presume HMRC would require lots of documents and probably money too ?

We bought a new burstner 6 years ago in Germany and just brought it back

Unless you have the fire retardant upholstery in your van (British regs), I believe it will be illegal to sell on in this country.
We brought our Burstner from Camper UK in Lincoln which conforms to British regs.
There is an importer of Hobby caravans in Derbyshire

It's not illegal for a private seller to sell on, but it is for a dealer to. But of course the Germans don't keep special flamible foam for Germany, it's the same stuff just that in GB you have to put a label on it

providing you buy the van in a country of the European community, and pay all taxes due in that country, you can bring it back with NO further tax or duty to pay in Britain. I did it, it's simple or I wouldn't have managed it
