That does not explain why they came to that conclusion, what was causing the mismatch between expectations and reality. And I am always sceptical about newspaper reports which often mistake hearsay for facts. and clickbait headlines.
If you want the full facts perhaps you should contact them

As kids in the 50s I well remember the cream coloured Scarabs at Victoria, Euston and and Kings Cross stations. By the late 50s early 60s we were take to family in the Midlands on the Midland Red Motorway Express coaches.

Designed and built by the Midland Red BMMO they cruised on the M1 at 90 mph with an alleged top speed of 100 mph. Such coaches sounded the death knell for BR

Arriva are currently running E Buses in York successfully I believe. Plenty to be seen around the City.

Urban myth, or at least urban exaggeration! The prototype CM5T achieved 85 mph at the MIRA high speed test track - the production versions were rated with a maximum of 76 mph.

As boys we sat behind the driver and watched the speedo needle steady on 90. I guess even in those days speedos were 5/10% optimistic 😉
