well I finally got the medal I never wanted,I retired from the prison service in 2003after 25 yrs and 12 yrs in the tank regiment. We were told in 2002 we werent getting the medal it was only the police, nurses and the forces who quite rightly should have the medal for the public service that they provide

maybe looking after lowlife pieces of crap and the dregs of society was not deemed a service to the public.Im sorry I forgot the fire service, they all do a fantastic job.

I think its a shame that the prison service have only been awarded the medal as an afterthought.

All I received from 25 teaching in further education was two TIAs. Thankfully retirement cured the problem and now all is well.

Transian Iscemic Attack (spelling might be wrong)very similar symptoms to a stroke but not so serious. I think a momentary lack of oxygen to the brain whereas a stroke is a clot of blood on the brain. Paramedics, medics, etc. correct me if I am wrong.

My main concern now Plotter is the hassle I am having trying to set up and run a business - not much cooperation from other so called directors (see overweight caravanners). It is enough to make a saint swear. However I thank you for your concern regarding my health but since early retirement three years ago all is now well (as I touch wood). Thank you.

allen, don't know which medal you mean but if it was up to me I'd give it to prison service people. It must be a tough job and feel a bit hopeless at times when the same folks keep coming back. But there will have been somethat you turned around and got back into a better life. S*d the government, think of those people. Well done.

The medal was for being a member of the armed services etc during the Queens Golden Jubilee year (2002), you had to have been a member for a period (5 years I think), sits nicely with my long service medal.

It is a gold medal with ribbon in mainly blue with red and white stripes.

Not as deserving as the medals earned in combat, life endangering situations and acts of bravery but I am proud of mine.
