Hi hope this is not a silly question..Will a roof box on our seat alhambra towing a pageant bretagne affect kerbweight or anything like that?? We want to put 2 adult and 2 child bikes over the axle so thought to put awning etc in roof box, is this ok?

Hi Brenda,

roof boxes will be limited to what weight they can carry (prob 50kgs), and you will need to check what the maximum weight your roof bars will allow (car manual) - so although it will increase the overall weight it is unlikely to be restrictive.

I reckon it is better to distribute the weight over the vehicles anyway. hope this helps, Mark (",)

Unless the roof box is a permanent feature, i.e. non-removable, it does not count towards kerbweight but it is part of the payload of the car. In other words, you still need to make sure that you do not exceed the maximum GVW of the car with the roof box fully laden.

Often, car manufacturers also quote a maximum permissible roof load for roof racks or boxes. Generally this is somewhere between 75 and 100kg.
