Hi John. Since your kind reply with reference to an overnight stop enroute to sarlat we have decided to use the A/N154 as you suggested. Could you please provide me with a few details of the site you recommended near salbris. ie is it a straight forward route off the A71 and can we get something to eat there. Many Thanks for your info.

I'll recommend Camping le Sologne at Salbris where we've stated several times. It's right in the middle of the village, well signposted, and you can get a simple meal there. There's a small bar/restaurant which is well patronised. The food is nothing special, but adequate for a quick overnight stop. The manager and his wife are both lovely people, and the pitches are fine. The toilet block is old fashioned but kept very clean, and you can walk into the village around the lake adjoining the site.

It's actually right on the N20, which runs parallel to the A71 at that point, and you can come off at junction 4, head into Salbris, and then turn north into the village. Go through the shops and you cross a bridge with a lake to the right, the campsite is a right turn, not long after the lake.

Would also recommend Camping Sologne at Salbris. Keep an eye out for the "tame" copyu that resides in the lake. It loves apples and usually appears in the early evening for a snack.

Hi All

Another possibility is the Camp Municipal de la Varenne at Neung sur Beuvron, which is about 20 km northwest of Salbris. It is a very pleasant site with 'touring' pitches on a grassy open area and also woodland glades, at the far end of the site (with close facilities). It is in the middle of the 'Sologne', an area of small lakes, woodland and pasture, with a network of walks and cycle paths. It is also convenient for Blois and some of the Chateaux on the south side of the Loire.

Cheers

Paul
