Question for Gary

Hi Gary, You were kind enough to answer questions on awning pegs, so having had my box of Screwfix goodies delivered there are a few things I'd like reassurance on. Am I right in assuming the bolts are screwed to the ground using a socket attached to the drill? Secondly, the wingnuts go on with the wings pointing down, presumably to hook the rubber awning loops over? Finally, do you use your drill to drive the bolts through the wingnuts in the first instance, as my mits are not strong enough to do this by hand? Sorry for all the questions but I really want to get this right at home, rather than dripping in sweat at the start of a relaxing week. Many thanks, George.

Hi George.

I gripped the wingnuts with a pair of pliers or a vice then drove the coach screw past the threads with a socket in the cordless, then to get them into the ground it simply a case of driving them in with the same socket and cordless, occasionally wiggling side to side to get past stones but the rotating screw seems to get past stones better than simply hammering a peg in.

I just used the plastic tops off awning pegs as I had a lot!!

I also use black roofing washers(pontefract cake lookalikes) with the screws for the the ground sheet

Many Thanks Gary and John. Interestingly, I had the CC mag through the door today and was gobsmacked at how much at how much the commercial sets (pegs and socket) are. Your solution I am sure will be just as good. Best wishes, George T.
