hi, we went on our first no electrics rally last weekend never again. we took 2 batteries and our vans lights etc are all 12v. we was carefull what we used and yes we did have the tv on but not loads. the senator tvs that come with the van have no off switch so they are on standby all the time. we arrived friday well we came home saturday and left the van there because buy the evening we would have no battery left. the 2nd battery we took ran the kids dvd players off it so that didnt affect it but there wasnt enough charge to swap it.

we had the water heater on once after that i boiled the kettle for hot water.

what did we do wrong or is the tv on standby draining it?.

i would look at the dvd player and water heater , not the tv. a friend of mine sat next to a bmw x5 in a motorway traffic jam for three hours and this guys kids watched dvds quite happily while they were stopped. when they wnt to move of the bmw battery was flat caused by the dvd player.

Hi Jo! We do loads of non-electric rallies and can manage almost week before batteries need a charge.I'm curious..it sounds as if you heated your water by battery power and boiled your water in an elctric kettle? Is this correct?? When going "non electric" we heat our water by gas.Half hour at a time on this, is ample time to heat water to wash pots, have a wash/shower etc. There is no need for this to be on constantly.Boiling water for cuppas etc is done in the hob kettle.

We havent got an 12v tv.Ours is a 15" normal dvd/freeview/flat screen which is run thru an inverter from a seperate 85amp hour battery.I know I can get roughly 20hrs viewing and alot daily viewing time according to length of stay.Caravan electrics is run by a 110AH battery.Radio is by a portable cd/taped player. For lighting, spot lights are used with main lights used only when necessary.

Like previous posting,I would look at the dvd players as these do take alot of power rather than the tv.

hi all, water heater was on for approx 30 mins but it was run on gas. the kids dvd players were running on another battery so that has nothing to do with it. all we had on was the tv on standby because there is no off switch on the tvs that come with the bailey senators. the cd player in the van is also the dvd player that was on when we put a dvd on but we didnt have it on all day and all night and when it wasnt used it was off. we was also careful what light we had on. i didnt use a toaster or a kettle just gas kettle, gas fridge, gas water heater. it was a nice saturday was we was outside for most of the afternoon.

help

I'd check your battery...does it need topping up with distilled water if it is the unsealed type? You would not have been able to use a water heater on battery, they only run on mains elec or gas. I can go almost two weeks on the battery, using 12v tv...admittedly not watching for long, showering three or four times a day maybe, and washing up umpteen times a day...all on the same battery.

I find this curious in a couple of ways. I presume the Wyoming is a S6, therefore technically identical to our Indiana. True, there are 12 some low ampage lights - led strips under some lockers - but the majority are high consumption spot lights - though they will run from the battery. Judging by the heat these spots give off they are very high consumtion and would drain the battery quickly if used a lot. I am also surprised about the water heater comment, as I am pretty sure this will only work off 240v mains supply, not 12v. The TV, as said, remains on standby unless the 12v master is switched off. However, demand on the battery would be minimal on standby. An option is simply to pull the power lead from the back of the TV when not in use. I doubt it is relevant in this case, but we have had to replace the power pack/transformer in our Indiana twice. I suppose there is a remote chance a fault in this device could cause the symptoms described.

Hi Jo-anne I have a s5 pagent & an 85ah battery,I have no trouble on a weekend & have had 4 nights away & still had power for the mover, How ever I do use a C-tec multi stage battery charger to recharge my battery (off the van)before & after I go away as the normal Van charger only charges to around 80% of the batteries full charge.

I would have the battery tested,& make sure that it is fully charged (12.7v) 6 hours afterit has been taken off charge.

If you have a normal battery which have acess to each cell get yourself a Hydrometer, less than a fiver

This will give you the state of charge & tell you if any cell is faulty (low reading in comaparison to the other cell's)

Hope this is of some help

hi we rally every fortnight and have a 110 amp battery i do take this home to charge , was told that when on elec hook up the charger in my avondale wouldn,t charge the 110 fully. but if youre battery is in good condition it should definitly last a wknd ,we use a 300wt inverter for the tv .you said that you had a seperate battery so basicly it was just running the lights and tv then it should have lasted unless the battery is faulty , did you have any trouble with the water pump ????? tj

Hi Joanne

How many lights did you have on and how long for?,were some left on for the kids all the time?most are halogen and are around 10 watts so these would burn around 1 amp each. How much tv did you watch total hrs ?

I rally will people who have Baileys and we do a weekend rally in winter np.

The water heater is gas but does need a 12v feed to power the ignitor and pcb.

How many times did you use the water pump(many showers etc) and did you run the blown air heating?

You are a naughty girl.

You never mentioned the aray of christmas tree lights hanging from your new Izzy porch. And how about all that manoeuvering you did with the Powrtouch before finally pitching up?

You also lost me on the kettle and water heater. Did you mean gas. Also did you leave the locker box light on??

We are using a 110amp leisure battery in our S6 Wyoming. The battery is now 6 years old , from our previous Vendee . No problem.

Do you use the trumatic fan and omnivent much?

Cheers

we have put some LCD bulbs in our Indiana at front and over bed mainly because they get too hot to touch but they are less demanding on battery also we turn off the booster when not in use.Unplugging the TV is a good idea too
