Rally Signs

This weekend we attended a rally some 65 miles from home and Googled the location as well as setting the satnav, so there was no problem finding the site first time. However, as we were nearing the site I remarked to my wife that there was a distinct lack of signs directing us there, and thought no more about it.
When we arrived and was greeted by the rally marshall he was most apologetic to the lack of signs and told us he had placed them as necessary but some jobsworth woman council worker had ordered him to remove them.
He tried to explain that they were only temporary and he would be removing them the next day but unfortunately that was not good enough for this jobsworth.
I can't believe someone would have this attitude, after all it was bringing trade to the village.

Sadly it doesn't surprise me

A few weeks back we went to a rally at a nice village hall with a rally field behind it. The rally steward told us that the main source of income which kept this village hall as a viable proposition for the local community is the money from a few rallies each year.
Nevertheless the people who lived in the vicinity of the hall apparently disliked the intrusion into their village of caravans and those of us who use them.

Whilst attending a the gate of Southwell festival in Nottinghamshire, I was talking to one of the organisers, and he told me of the difficulties during the planning the local council and county councils raods dept who objected to signs.

1. Advertsing a comercial operation, breeching planning by-laws
2. Distratcation to motorists.

The potential fine was £1000 per sign!
The irony was the festival is substantially grant aided and supported by the the County Council. Eventually the matter was resvolved when the police agreed and pointed out the cost policing the event disruption in the village and its surroundings if the signs were not allowed. but each loaction had to be agreed and approved.

We have the same thing around here. It is people in the community that you are supporting that complain! Unfortunately in this case once they have a complaint the council have to act.
