Rear of van safety.

One of my cantacts has just called by with a large trailer in tow. The back was hit a while ago jamming the doors much in the same way as Tina's van.

Joe has adapted some Maplins reversing sensors and run via spare wire into his van connected so if anything cames to close he knows. If any thing gets to close to the back the thing screams at him and he can reverse the trailer unaided with out hitting stuff.

He is unhappy though as the sensors were yet another Maplins purchase but are now on offer at only £19.99!!

So if any of you are basic techy head DIYers like us, I thought some might like to give it a go on there vans.

Hi Chris, Just had a look in the Maplins book but I cant find mention of reversing sensor. They are probably described in some totally alien way so would it be possible for you to get any more info on them (Part No or page) from your contact?

Cheers Clive

Two questions:

Can you fit this to a car? (Not that there's anything wrong with my reversing skills mind!).

If so, could you give me step by step (idiots guide) to fitting to a car please? along with exact names of parts, approx cost and where to purchase.

Thanks

Lisa

Would it interest anyone if I worked out and put a wiring diagram together that would activate revering sensors on a caravan and disable the ones on a car when you plug in the van?

I am thinking about doing this and if the diagram is available it could be given to an auto electrician if you could not do it yourself

Sounds good to me Steve. Thanks for the offer.

you can get a device called Reverse Alert from ATA Security www.ata4security.co.uk

They are very reliable and accurate, according to my father-in-law who has one fitted to his BMW.
