Rear view camera 12v power for camera

Is it ok to power the rear view camera using the caravan lights and, when travelling, keeping the car lights switched on?

Rear view & reversing camera for Caravan

Thanks for your reply but I prefer not to hard wire as it is a WiFi digital system. I have read that it could be wired to the fridge 12v supply and will only work when the car is connected to the caravan, providing power to the fridge, but I am asking whether the camera can be wired to the side marker light.

My guess would be yes, no problem. These cameras take a very small current. Possibly, if your car has very sophisticated electronics the extra load may be registered. But I very much doubt it. After all, those electronics are looking for a light failure.

But test it and see. If it does not work you could rethink. I would put a small fuse in line to the camera.

I would think that a wireless camera could be wired from the caravan battery via a fuse and switch with appropriate cables as it only needs power to the transmitter and the towing vehicle would supply power for the receiver and monitor
