Red light on fridge in caravan when towing

We have a 1998 Sterling Europa. Two electric plugs (1 black and 1 grey) connect to towing vehicle, a 2005 Peugeot 407SW. When we use our fridge on gas or 240 volts everything works ok. On our last trip when we tow and switch the green fridge light off and the red switch on, with the engine running, the red light comes on for 15 - 20 seconds, then goes off for 3 or 4 seconds and then comes on again for 16 seconds and then off again for 3 seconds. It continues in this on/offf routine until we reconnect to gas or 240 v. Can anyone advise of this is a terminal situation for the fridge?

What you have happening is the relay from the car switching in and out, as it is not set correctly .There should be a small adjusting screw to increase or decrease the trigger voltage.

Sounds like an issue with the car electrics, possible relay fault?

ie chattering.

Put a circuit tester on the pins in the 12s socket fridge plus and a negative start the car and see what happens,my guess is it breaking down under load.

Could test the fridge by connecting a battery directly to the 12s plug to simulate the 12v from the car, only need to do for a couple of mins otherwise it will discharge the battery. If this test keeps the red light on this will isolate the fridge as an issue
