I posted a message some time ago asking about registering a caravan in France. Most of the replies were along the lines of "it's impossible" - it will take years, the door is on the wrong side, electrical and gas systems need changing, sell it and buy another in France etc, etc.
What a load of rubbish! 4 of us "Brits in France" have just finished registering our 'vans. The longest it took was 3 months and most of that was time spent waiting for information from the UK.
The only changes we had to make were to swap the fog and reversing light positions (simple). At no time was the door position, gas or electricity supplies mentioned.
I should mention that none of our 'vans is more than 2 years old and it would seem that most of the disaster stories relate to 20 year old vans. To be honest, that's to be expected.
It should be mentioned that the French are very particular about the paperwork needed but all the information needed is readily available from the caravan and chassis manufacturer.
So, to anyone else thinking about registering their 'van in France, I'd say go for it - it's not that difficult!
