All I can say about them is that they're supposed to be able to do the job they're supposed to quite well but at that price one can expect them too. It would definitely be cheaper to use a public weighbridge as and when necessary, instead.

It's a device for measuring the actual weight of a cavaran. By running each wheel in turn over a pad one gets a readout of the weight. It is quite compact and is claimed only to weigh a kilo.

Lutz: I agree that it is cheaper to use a weighbridge when required but it is not always very convenient, to my astonishment, my local caravan dealer couldn't tell me where to find the nearest one. We spend a lot of time in France and as a consequence we we take a lot of kit with us. Also it could be quite difficult to find a weighbridge in the middle of France should we need one. I have a suspicion that many people ignore this subject, they just load up and hope for the best; people have even asked what I'm doing when I'm measuring the noseweight!

I've used the Reich weight control for two years now.

It's not a device that you will need to use often unless you make changes to your caravan weight distribution.

Recently I installed Dometic rooftop air con which was to the rear of the axle and the Reich indicated that the nose weight had reduced to 29kg, so I was able to juggle my loading to increase this to 70kg.

I would have thought that once you've had the caravan weighed on a weighbridge with all the typical kit on board and you then know what margin you have left for further payload until you reach the MTPLM, you'd have a pretty good idea how much other stuff you can put on board. To make full use of available payload right to the last kilogramme would be going a bit over the top anyway.

I have one of these when I drive over it it switches off. I do'nt know if it's faulty or if I am doing something wrong.

Colin.
