Removable central chest of drawers.

I'm just wondering if there is a reason technical or otherwise for the top section (pretty much 50%) of the central drawer in the lounge being removable?
We just picked up our new to us van yesterday and most of the things are familiar to us but its the first time i've come across this and unfortunately theres no instruction manual.

The last caravan we had the previous owner use to take the centre chest draws out but we had them fixed in and just use the top that slides out to make a table when we had friends come visiting.

Not sure of the brand of caravan, but on most caravans the top slides out to make a small table.
Also the top lifts up to make a nice little hidy hole to put documents into, ie Caravan handbook, AlKo registration, photo copies of car docum etc, and a spare wine bottle opener.

My Elddis front chest sits in place and is restrained by a strap to each side. As the bed slats roll in to the lower section I have needed to remove it to access beneath when these jammed. I have always assumed it was a perhaps generic construction that in some layouts the cabinet would be replaced with a front seat cushion and backrest.

Mine slides out to either to the left or right once the relative cushions are moved,(removal of draws makes it lighter).Fixed to the front of the caravan is a channel, fixed to the drawers is a rail that slides into the channel

The top section, normally two draws and a table, is removable, in order to replace it with optional cushions to form a ‘U’ shaped seating arrangement. Personally, we preferred the draws and table.

My Bailey is as Audiorob and John C.
We use the fold out flip over table every day for meals .The two drawers are very useful storage and all the while the bed slats for the front double bed are nicely rolled up inside.

On our coachman amara 380/2 the central drawers /shelf can be removed to make a large bed using the back cushions , never done it as where to put the unit during the night
